Teens Climb High (TCH) is a teen empowerment program for middle school girls focused on evidence based pregnancy prevention curriculum. Serves: Middle School Female Students of Color Scope: 35 Students (as of May 2011) Services: Sex Education Size: 1 full-time staff, 2 interns, 3 volunteers Structure: Run by the Compass Center for Women and Families, the program serves Smith and Phillips Middle Schools. TCH is the only program in Chapel Hill and Carrboro aimed at reducing teen pregnancy for low-income middle school girls. A three-year program, TCH currently serves 35 students who are identified by their school social worker as being at high risk for a teen pregnancy. Grades 6 and 7 focus on comprehensive sex education, covering topics such as relationships, self-esteem, puberty, boundary setting, and healthy decision-making. Students in the 8th grade can apply to be peer leaders in the program. Programing takes place during lunch or after school at Smith and Phillips Middle Schools.
