Volunteers for Youth, Inc.

Volunteers for Youth is a delinquency prevention program that rehabilitates children through community service, teen court, and mentoring. Most of these children are delinquent or at risk for delinquency. Volunteers for Youth (VFY) works with kids who are getting into legal trouble or may be at risk for such troubles. VFY has three primary programs: The teen court program diverts many juvenile offenders into less harsh, development-based community service opportunities. The Juvenile Community Service and Restitution program supervises the placement of youth who have court-ordered community service, and helps them learn important lessons about accountability. Lastly, VFW operates a volunteer mentor program that trains volunteers, matches them to at-risk and court involved youth, and provides ongoing support. Volunteers for Youth attempts to steer youth towards becoming law-abiding adults. VFY is funded by the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, United Way of Greater Orange, local municipalities, fundraisers, and some private foundations.
