Short Description: The mission of the Augustine Literacy Project is to improve the reading, writing and spelling abilities of low-income children and teens who struggle with literacy skills. The Project trains and supports volunteer tutors who provide free, long-term, one-on-one instruction using the Orton-Gillingham approach and Wilson Reading System (R) materials.

Short Description: The Happy Messenger Art Bus will bring a wide variety of mobile art experiences to the community. These experiences will be mostly offered in partnership with local art groups, councils, school districts, afterschool programs, health organizations, corporations and more. Artistic expression programs such as this have been found to foster as sense of empowerment, belonging and achievement.
Short Description: Every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30pm, high school students are invited to attend a free community tutorial at the Hargraves Recreation Center coordinated by the Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate program. Students can work in small groups and get support from UNC volunteer tutors.
Short Description: The Human Rights Center seeks to advocate and provide resources for those who suffer exploitation and abuses of power by working with community organizations and local residents to address the needs of underrepresented communities in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. The Human Rights Center serves as an entry point for community and university organizations to work with the Abbey Court community in Carrboro.

We aim to provide supportive and safe place that you can come to when you are in need. We are committed to action and change, by keeping a vigilant eye on laws being passed that affect our community.
Short Description: Housed at McDougal Middle School this afterschool program provides students from UNC as mentors who discuss the children’s’ problems and ambitions. The program also stresses the importance of education and friendships, while helping the students stay away from drugs, alcohol and gangs. Positive reinforcement and fun activities help toe let the children grow into responsible young adults and prepare them for high school and beyond
